Embedded PoE Android HMI Solution for Smart Equipment and Building Control

Post by PRETECH on 2026-09-11 in Showcase

Pretech provides a project-ready embedded Android HMI solution based on WP106, a 10.1-inch fixed control panel designed for B2B smart hardware projects. With RJ45 Ethernet / PoE, RJ12 RS485, 12V / 24V project power input, USB-C service access, optional 4G LTE and front NFC, WP106 helps equipment teams build a cleaner and more reliable user interface into their own machines, lockers, cabinets and service terminals.

Why embedded equipment needs a fixed Android HMI

Many B2B equipment projects start with a simple question: can we use a tablet as the front interface? A consumer tablet may look easy at first, but it often creates hidden problems in real deployment. It may depend on a battery, external adapters, loose cables, consumer charging behavior or unstable mounting. It may not expose the right interfaces for a machine mainboard, door controller, BMS gateway or industrial control device.

For embedded equipment, the control panel is not an accessory. It becomes part of the machine. It must fit the enclosure, boot reliably after power recovery, communicate with the control system, connect to the network, support maintenance and remain available every day.

Pretech's WP106-based embedded PoE Android HMI solution is built around those project needs. It gives hardware teams a fixed Android interface with defined power, network and control paths. Instead of adapting a handheld device after the product is already designed, buyers can plan WP106 as part of the equipment architecture from the beginning.

WP106 hardware platform: power, network, control and service

WP106 is a 10.1-inch Android HMI platform for smart building and smart equipment projects. It is suitable for wall-mounted use, but its value is stronger when customers need a fixed panel that can be integrated into a device, cabinet, terminal or room control system.

RJ12Supports RS485 communication and low-voltage project power input by configuration.
12V / 24VSupports equipment-side power where PoE is not the preferred installation mode.
USB-CSupports engineering debug, firmware update, sample validation and maintenance access.
4G LTEOptional cellular connectivity for remote, retrofit or temporary sites.
Front NFCOptional card tap, staff check-in, access control or payment-ready workflows.
No BatteryReduces swelling and aging risk inside sealed or always-on equipment installations.

Interface working modes for different project sites

Different equipment projects use different wiring conditions. WP106 can support multiple working modes so that buyers can match the panel to the existing power source, network infrastructure and control system.

WP106 system architecture for embedded equipment projects.jpg

System architecture: the embedded panel becomes the operator UI, control bridge and network endpoint.

Application scenario 1: self-service, coffee and vending machines

WP106 can be embedded into the front fascia of coffee machines, vending machines, ticketing machines and self-service equipment. The panel becomes the operator interface for product selection, status display, payment-ready workflow and service prompts.

● RJ12 RS485 connects to the machine mainboard for device status or control commands.

● 12V / 24V power can be taken from the machine's internal power rail.

● RJ45 provides wired network access or PoE where available.

● USB-C supports debugging, firmware update and sample validation.

Application scenario 2: smart locker, parcel locker and storage cabinet

For smart lockers and storage cabinets, WP106 can serve as the fixed touch interface for pickup code entry, NFC card tap, staff access, service status and remote cabinet management. Optional 4G LTE supports distributed or retrofit locker sites where wired network may not be ready.

● Front NFC supports card tap or user identification workflows.

● RJ12 RS485 can connect to locker controller boards or door release logic.

● RJ45 supports stable wired backend communication.

● Optional 4G LTE supports remote locker projects.

Application scenario 3: industrial equipment, control cabinet and BMS

WP106 can be used as an Android HMI panel for control cabinets, BMS projects, HVAC systems and industrial equipment. It gives operators a fixed screen while supporting RS485 communication and low-voltage project power.

● RJ12 RS485 supports communication with PLC-related devices, BMS gateways, HVAC controllers or project-specific control boards.

● 12V / 24V power mode uses existing cabinet power.

● RJ45 connects to facility LAN, local gateways or monitoring servers.

● USB-C supports engineering maintenance.

Application scenario 4: medical kiosk, check-in and service terminal

For service terminals and medical check-in projects, WP106 can provide a fixed user interaction point for identity check, queue status, service prompts and backend data connection. Front NFC and USB-C service access make it practical for public service environments.

● Front NFC supports ID or card tap workflows depending on software.

● RJ45 connects the panel to backend systems.

● Optional 4G LTE can support temporary or retrofit locations.

● USB-C supports firmware update and field service.

FAQ

Can WP106 be embedded into equipment instead of only wall-mounted?

Yes. WP106 can be used as a fixed Android HMI panel for equipment panels, cabinets, smart lockers, kiosks and building control points. The final structure depends on the customer's enclosure, bracket, cutout and installation method.

Can WP106 use 12V or 24V power inside a machine or cabinet?

Yes. For embedded equipment projects, WP106 can support low-voltage project power such as 12V or 24V depending on configuration. This is useful when the customer's machine or cabinet already has internal DC power.

What is RJ12 used for?

RJ12 can support RS485 communication and project power input by configuration. In B2B projects, RS485 may be used to communicate with a machine mainboard, locker controller, PLC-related device, BMS gateway, HVAC controller or project-specific control board.

What is RJ45 used for?

RJ45 can support wired Ethernet and PoE deployment when the project infrastructure supports it. For some projects, RJ45 is used for network only while power comes from 12V / 24V project wiring.

Is 4G LTE available?

Yes, 4G LTE can be supported as an optional configuration for remote, retrofit or temporary sites where wired network is limited. The exact configuration should be confirmed during the project requirement stage.

Can Pretech customize the hardware or software?

Yes. Pretech can support hardware configuration, interface planning, bracket and enclosure adaptation, Android system preparation, app pre-installation, sample validation and mass-production support for ODM projects.
